January / February Ministry Update
Welcome to our first edition of “The Embers,” the newsletter for Pulpit Aflame Ministries. The purpose of the newsletter is the keep our friends and supporters up to date with our ministry. We will include current activities, upcoming meetings, prayer requests and often a brief devotional. The name “The Embers,” is a play off of the name of our ministry, “Pulpit Aflame Ministries.”
We “officially” launched full-time into Pulpit Aflame Ministries in December of 2017. The ministry is a continuation of many of our ministry activities from the last 35 years. I first began using the title “Pulpit Aflame” nearly 30 years ago and have used that title for all of our publications since 1985. Pulpit Aflame Ministries was recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 Non-Profit in 2017.
Let me explain the name, “Pulpit Aflame”, and that will help you to understand our purpose and plan for our ministries.
When I was a teenager, in our youth group, we would often describe someone as, “Being on fire for God!” We would say, “Our youth group is on fire for God.
What we meant by that was that they had great passion, zeal, and commitment for God. They were serving the Lord with reckless abandon!
The Bible says about John the Baptist, in John 5:35, “He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.” John the Baptist had a lasting influence because he was a BURNING and SHINING light. He truly was AFLAME for God! His light drew attention, so that he could introduce them to Jesus Christ. I believe what this generation needs is a group of Believers who are ablaze for God!
This newsletter will seek to inform of our ministry and inspire you to do a greater work for God!
An Eventful Beginning
We were snowed in on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, and could not attend church, so we decided to do a “Facebook Live” video from our home office. It was an exciting event and gave us an opportunity to begin to work out the process for doing “mobile” livestream videos for our ministry. I recommend you to go to our Facebook page and watch the “Pulpit Aflame Introduction.”
On Sunday, December 24, I had the privilege to preach for my friend, Pastor Hector Sharpetta, and the Westview Baptist Church in Warren, MI for the Christmas Eve service. We returned on January 14 to preach for them again.
On Wednesday, December 27, I preached for Pastor Tim Berlin and Faith Baptist Church in Warren, MI. I preached on the topic, “Brethren, Pray for Us!” This is a practical message on how to pray for preachers (pastors, evangelists, missionaries) and specifically how to pray for our ministry. The video will be uploaded to our website in the next few days. I encourage you to watch it, and then PRAY!
On Sunday, December 31, I was honored to preach at Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Lansing, MI for their Watchnight Service. It is always a thrill to be with Pastor Jim Green and Dr. Don Green. These are great friends and this is a great church!
On Friday, January 12, 2018 I preached for Parkview Baptist Church in Livonia, MI and Pastor Steven Brown for their RU program. Thankful for churches that still believe that God saves sinners and the Gospel changes lives!
On January 24-28, I travelled to Lexington, KY to be with Pastor Jeff Fugate for “The Evangelist College” hosted by the Commonwealth Baptist College and the Sword of the Lord. Dr. Fugate, Dr. Shelton Smith, Dr. John Hamblin, and Evangelist Justin Cooper were a real blessing! It was a great time of fellowship, instruction, and challenge from the Word of God. I am thankful for these faithful men of God and their ministries which still stand for the old paths and old-time fundamentalism!
Video Productions
A large part of Pulpit Aflame Ministries will be videos of sermons, doctrinal studies, and Bible Institute courses. These will be available online on our website, Facebook, and YouTube.
During these last two months we have set-up our temporary studio and begun recording videos. The first video completed was “How Can I Know I Have Eternal Life?” It is a 14 minute presentation of the Gospel. It has been posted to our Facebook page and we encourage you to share it with anyone you are trying to win to Christ. We have already seen God’s hand on this video!
Other videos will be 7-10 minute videos on Bible doctrines and topics, Bible Institute classes, and full-length sermons. These are designed to be shared and used to help you disciple new converts and equip Believers. I am thankful for the expertise and help of our son, John, in the production of the videos, social media, and web posts. We are excited to see how God will use these tools in local churches around the world.
